Scandic Helsinki Hub is transforming from 1920´s former printing house to an urban hotel for the modern traveler in the centre of Helsinki next to the Old Church Park. Have you heard that Finland´s archipelago is the largest in the world? In Espoo alone, there are 165 islands, which is more than in Hawaii. Five of the islands are in recreational use and reachable by archipelago boats in the summertime. Designed by architect brothers Jung & Jung, modeled on 1920’s American skyscrapers, Finland’s first skyscraper and world-class hotel rose in the center of Helsinki in 1931. Hotel Torni was built in a prominent location in central Helsinki bringing with it permanent changes to both the cityscape and the atmosphere of the city. It has been a meeting place for artists, journalists, friends of gastronomy and politicians: Torni’s history is the history of Helsinki.

UNESCO has designated Salpausselkä Geopark as a Global Geopark. The designation recognizes sites and landscapes of international geological significance, and the designated territories form a global network of sustainable travel destinations with outstanding geological features. The newly designated eight destinations bring the number of UNESCO Global Geoparks to 177 in 46 countries.

In the southernmost part of the vast Lakeland of Finland, Salpausselkä Geopark features a diverse landscape of forest-covered ridges and hills, hundreds of lakes, rolling fields and outcrops of a nearly two billion years old bedrock. The geopark stretches from the First Salpausselkä ridge in Lahti to the southern Lake Päijänne.

Breath-taking sceneries, easily accessible nature attractions, diverse outdoor activities, pure local tastes and four distinct seasons make the area ideal for recreation and memorable experiences all year around – whether enjoying the endless summer days or the peaceful darkness of winter. The area can be reached in less than an hour by train from Helsinki, the capital.

On March 1, Viking Line’s new flagship, Viking Glory, was launched in service on the Stockholm–Mariehamn–Turku route. It is one of the world’s most climate-smart vessels and offers passengers top-class comfort and a wide range of experiences. More than 70,000 passengers have already enjoyed wonderful vistas through the large windows that provide views of the world’s most beautiful archipelago.

Viking Glory’s conference facilities are something special. Small meetings, large meeting — there are 14 flexible conference rooms here that can be adapted to your needs. All in all, nearly 400 people can be accommodated. The new addition to the Viking line fleet offers modern comfort with daily cruises between Stockholm, Mariehamn and Turku.  They bring you the sea — rocky islets, swelling waves and the bright blue horizon. Thanks to large panoramic windows, you’ll always feel you have a ringside seat — no matter where you are on board.

“With the big windows, the sea is present everywhere on Glory. We’ve also placed various elements borrowed from nature in the archipelago here and there on the ship: waves, beacons, flags, skerries and lighthouses. These are seen both as moving images on giant LED screens and as abstract figures, for example, in carpets and lighting fixtures. The colour palette on the vessel was inspired by the sea, the cliffs, the forests and the nuances of the different kinds of wood.”
