Finnish Architecture Navigator

A lot has happened in Finnish architecture since the days of Alvar Aalto, regarded as the most influential architect of modern Finland. Finland has now unleashed an environmentally aware and more global architecture with outcomes that are getting international praise and prizes. A striking example of new Finnish architecture is the Helsinki Central Library Oodi (Finnish for “ode”), opened in December, 2018.

Finnish Architecture Navigator helps you to find interesting architecture through themes, locations, architects and tag words. Finnish Architecture Navigator is a curated database of Finnish architecture administered by Archinfo Finland.

The database is constantly updated with new architects and projects, with the aim that the service will include all key works and architects of Finnish architecture, throughout the times up until today. The curated themes will present different perspectives to the social, typological or other topical aspects of Finnish architecture.

Kulttuurihalli opened in Helsinki

The old ticket sales hall at Helsinki Central Station has been turned into Kulttuurihalli, Culture Hall, a new pop-up exhibition and event space providing a meeting point for Helsinkians and those visiting the city. Kulttuurihalli offers a changing programme of exhibitions, events and talks on urban culture, including visual arts, design, architecture and literature. The large hall consists of three different spaces: a studio for creatives to showcase their work, a stage area for talks and performances, and a cosy café serving coffee, snacks and lunch.

Kulttuurihalli can also be booked for meetings and events. Designed by architect Eliel Saarinen, this historic landmark provides a wonderful setting for events, product launches or seminars in the large hall. Kulttuurihalli combines three different spaces: exhibition space, stage, and serving area to create a functional entity perfect for a variety of events. The venue can be booked for the whole day or for just a few hours. The room can accommodate up to 200 people, and the cafeteria seats up to 100 people. Catering for the event is ordered from Café Kulttuurihalli.

SCANDIC GRAND CENTRAL HELSINKI

A completely unique, magnificent hotel Scandic Grand Central Helsinki will open in early 2021 in a prestigious art nouveau building of historical value designed by architect Eliel Saarinen. SOKOS HOTEL KUPITTAA, TURKU

Sokos Hotel Kupittaa opens its doors on 1st of July 2020. The modern and extraordinary hotel is located in the heart of Kupittaa, a fast growing area in Turku. There is a direct connection to the hotel from the train station.

The 196 stylish rooms have been furnished with individual touch. The 9th floor Kuppis Rooftop Bar opens to a magnificent view over Turku. The hotel has been awarded Green Key environmental certification, just like all Sokos Hotels in Finland.
