The new NH Collection Helsinki Grand Hansa offers a unique blend of rich heritage and modern hospitality

30.5.2024

The latest addition to the NH Collection portfolio, NH Collection Helsinki Grand Hansa officially opened its doors on 16 May 2024. The hotel represents the debut of the NH Collection brand in Finland and is the second in the Nordics.

Providing a perfect setting for unforgettable experiences, the property combines two historically significant heritage buildings: the Art Nouveau-style New Student House built in 1910, and Seurahuone, Helsinki's oldest continuously operated hotel. First established on the market square in 1833, Seurahuone moved to its current location in 1913. The building was designed with inspiration drawn from Europe's finest hotels and it defined the standards for accommodation, culture, and Helsinki’s social life for decades. Now, after a careful renovation and a restoration that respects its history, the building continues its legendary legacy of hospitality as the first NH Collection hotel in Finland. While preserving the rich heritage of its surroundings, the NH Collection Helsinki Grand Hansa embraces the modern traveller’s penchant for sophistication and indulgence.

Grand Hansa boasts 224 guest rooms and nine meeting rooms

With more than 700 square metres of event space and nine flexible, fully technically equipped meeting rooms, NH Collection Helsinki Grand Hansa is the ideal setting for any event, including executive board meetings, seminars, conferences and prestige galas. Especially impressive is the historic Ballroom, which has hosted high-end events since the early 20th Century.

Nestled within the storied walls, 224 guest rooms and suites – including an opulent 160-square-metre presidential suite – offer guests comfort, convenience and modern luxury. In the heart of the city, the hotel is less than a three-minute walk from The Central Railway Station with trains to and from Helsinki Airport.

The hotel’s exquisite spa preserves unique Finnish wellness traditions by translating age-old health treatments and rituals into modern experiences. The Finnish sauna, steam room and infra-red sauna as well as the over-300-square-metre fully equipped gym are available to all hotel guests.

Valuable cultural heritage and art from different eras

The hotel is housed in listed historic buildings designed by architect Armas Lindgren in the early 1900s. Lindgren was assisted in the design of the New Student House by Wivi Lönn, the most notable female architect of the time. NH Collection Helsinki Grand Hansa combines two historically significant listed buildings: the New Student House and the Seurahuone building. The same location has been home to restaurants and hotels for over one hundred years.

NH Collection Helsinki Grand Hansa invites its guests to enjoy art from different eras. At the entrance, visitors are greeted by sculptor Johannes Haapasalo's soapstone sculptures, human figures representing four classic character traits (melancholic, sanguine, phlegmatic and choleric). The building also houses reliefs by artist Gunnar Finn and a fountain designed by sculptor Eemil Halonen. The interior design of the rooms is complemented by an exclusive collection of modern Finnish art.
